History in the Making August 27, 2001
Field by field, millions of financial historical records
are being converted from CUFS and 1032 to tables in the new Banner Finance
System. Two full fiscal years, 2000 and 2001, of data will be available in the
new system at the Finance go-live date of January 2, 2002. Inception-to-date
and monthly balances are being converted into Banner for fund-org-account,
allowing users to get quick and accurate snapshots of fiscal year comparisons.
At the department level, historical data may be less useful
because, except for personnel accounts, there will be no fourth level account
detail (equivalent to CUFS object codes) and no transactional detail. Users who
need history for either individual object codes or detailed transactions will
access the data via 1032 using the crosswalk and detailed ledgers. The
restructuring of the chart of accounts (e.g. certain funds were broken out or
combined) may also make reconciling CUFS history to Banner difficult in some
cases. Even with these limitations, it is expected that users will appreciate
the value of the historical data at their fingertips for trend analysis and
decision-making. According to our SCT consultants, we are the first and only
clients they have worked with to load any historical data into Banner tables.
Most campuses simply build the detail over time and after a couple years they
are able to report on prior year data.
