Project FRESH E-News - April 2000

Welcome to the first edition of E-News, the monthly Project FRESH electronic newsletter! E-News brings you the latest information on Project FRESH, USNH's Finance and Human Resources System Replacement project.

Project FRESH @ USNH is the web site that complements this newsletter. If you prefer not to receive E-News, follow the unsubscribe instructions located at the bottom on this message.

Project Background

On September 30, 1999, USNH signed a contract with SCT Corporation to purchase several administrative software modules, including new finance and human resources management information systems. This purchase will enable USNH to replace several of its aging technology systems, such as CUFS and HUM, with an integrated product suite that will leverage new technologies, such as the world-wide web, offer enhanced capabilities to end users and provide a reliable and vendor-supported technology base.

USNH chose SCT Banner because Banner offers the most mature product suite, highest degree of integration, and lowest total cost of ownership. SCT's successfully installed client base and commitment to higher education were also important factors. Please click here for more information about the vendor review phase.

Once the contract was signed, a dedicated project team was put in place to manage the implementation. After several months of planning by this team, business process owners, end users and system office staff also became engaged in the implementation through their participation in process groups.

Process groups have been created for major USNH business processes. These groups are responsible for designing the future business solutions within the SCT Banner software. Please see the project's web site for more information on the project's organizational structure.

Project Timeline

USNH is scheduled to go-live with SCT Banner Finance on July 1, 2001 and Banner Human Resources on January 1, 2002. The Project FRESH implementation will involve 5 major phases of activity -

1. Mobilize the project.

2. Design the future business solutions.

3. Configure the business solutions.

4. Test and refine the solutions.

5. Train end users and deploy the solutions.

Please refer to the project's overall timeline for a graphic presentation of the major project activities.

Update on Process Groups

Preliminary Recommendations from HR Foundation Team

In early March, the HR Foundation Team released several preliminary recommendations for key HR data elements including the Pay ID, Employee Class, Position Class, and Position. These recommendations are available for your review on the project's web site. Feedback or questions on these preliminary recommendations should be forwarded to Carol Powers, HR Team Lead, via e-mail. The work of the HR foundation team will be completed this month.

System Education/Preliminary Process Design Work Continues

The project's nine process groups, involving over 120 people and representing USNH's major business processes, have been involved in system education since February. System education is not end-user training. End user training will take place approximately one month before each go live date. The purpose of system education is to familiarize the process group participants with the Banner software so that they can design the future business solution for their particular area. For a more detailed system education schedule, please see the project's on-line calendar. Video tapes of the system education training sessions are available to all USNH staff and are located at each campus: KSC - Fiske Annex conference room, PSC - Speare 113, and at UNH - Nesmith Hall Room 24.

The process groups are beginning to develop the preliminary solution designs for USNH future business processes. Preliminary recommendations from process groups will be shared with the USNH community through open forums, this newsletter and the project's web site. All business process solution designs will be completed and approved by 8/1/00.

Miscellaneous Information

The project management team will give an update at the UNH BSC Forum on May 3rd, 9:30 am in the UNH Memorial Union Building Theater 1.

SCT Banner Documentation is available on-line to all USNH users at the project's web site.
