F O A P A L October 2, 2001When does a FAO become a FOAPAL? When we convert from CUFS to Banner. The familiar combination of letters and numbers that we currently know as Fund, Area, and Organization – Revenue Source Code/Object Code in CUFS will soon become FOAPAL \’fo-pal\: Fund, Organization, Account, Program, Activity, and Location in Banner. FOAPAL is the acronym representing each element of the new USNH chart of accounts that will be in place once we cut over to Banner. Each of these elements must be assigned to every financial transaction that we process in the new system. FAOs will continue to be used for HUM transactions until Banner HR goes live in July 2002. Before you panic, you should be aware that crosswalks between the CUFS chart of accounts and the Banner chart are available on the home page of the Project FRESH Web site, http://www.fresh.unh.edu/. These crosswalks will allow you to enter elements of a CUFS FAO and find the corresponding elements of a FOAPAL. In addition, when entering documents into Banner, you will not be required to key in all the elements of each FOAPAL. In many cases, Banner will automatically populate some of the elements. The structure of the new chart of accounts will be covered extensively in the Banner Finance training sessions. The following table briefly describes the FOAPAL elements:
